Supreme Court has recently
rejected the plea of the over aged candidate, Sunil Kumar Ray, regarding
the age relaxation for UPPSC Combined Lower Subordinate Services
Preliminary Exam 2013, clearing the way for the UPPSC to conduct the
exam. Supreme Court took the decision, taking into consideration the
order of the Uttar Pradesh governor regarding the plea, in which the
governor had rejected granting any further age relaxation to the
candidates.
The UPPSC Combined Lower Subordinate Services Preliminary Exam 2013 (commonly known as Lower PCS) which was to be conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission on 19 January 2013 was postponed due to a plea in the Supreme Court by a candidate for age relaxation in the exam. The age limit for appearing in the exam had already been increased from 35 years to 40years in June 2012.
The UPPSC Combined Lower Subordinate Services exam is not held every year, rather it is conducted at a time interval of 2-3 years due to which many candidates become overage. Due to this, some candidates had submitted a plea in the Allahabad High Court asking for conducting the examination every year. The single judge bench of the High Court had given the Governor the authority to grant age relaxation to the candidates. Also, the Commission was asked to allow the overage candidates to appear for the examination on a provisional basis. The UPPSC appealed to the Division Bench against this Single bench order. After this, the candidate went to the Supreme Court.
