Don’t police parks on Valentine’s Day, high court rules
The high court declined to order deployment of security men and guards to prevent young couples from entering parks of Lucknow on the Valentine's Day.

LUCKNOW: In a major relief to young couples, the high court on Thursday declined to order deployment of security men and guards to prevent them from entering parks of the city on the Valentine's Day. The court said it would amount to infringement of the fundamental right to freedom of movement as guaranteed in the Constitution.

The court observed: "Various kinds of freedoms under Article 19 of the Constitution have been guaranteed to the citizens of the country which includes freedom of movement, of course subject to only maintain the security of the state, public order, decency and morality etc''.

One Vijaya Singh had field a petition seeking court's direction to the state government and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to deploy guards in every park, especially Nehru Bal Vatika in Aliganj and Begam Hazrat Mahal Park.

The petitioner had also sought direction to the authorities to prevent the entry of the students in uniform and youth so that they could not make obscene activities, allowing the common people to go in the city parks with their family freely without any hesitation.

Dismissing the PIL at the admission stage , the bench observed, "If the prayer made in the petition is granted, it would clearly amount to running contrary to the freedom of movement guaranteed under the Article 19 (1) (d) of the Constitution of India. Accordingly, we refrain ourselves from entertaining the petition.''
