CBSE to host World Book Fair in Delhi

CHENNAI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will host the World Book Fair 2014 in Delhi between February 15 and 23 to promote reading among children.

Through this initiative, the CBSE will motivate teachers, school librarians and parents to encourage reading habits among students. Reading would help students develop holistically, inculcate life skills and be prepared to face the professional world, said a statement from the board.

"With computer-generated games, electronic devices and programmes battling for children's attention, educators and parents need to give children every opportunity to explore the wonders of the written word," said CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi.

Reading for pleasure is more important to a child's development than other forms of reading in classrooms. Studies show that youngsters who read daily perform better in all areas of the school curriculum than others, according to the statement.

The CBSE promotes co-scholastic activities all round the year to encourage students to be active outside academics as well.
